Moorsholm Village first entered the Northumbria In Bloom competition in 2006 and for three years the village forum co-ordinated the entry. Moorsholm was awarded Bronze in 2006 and 2007, then in 2009 a new group was formed, “Moorsholm In Bloom” and in 2010 the village was awarded a Silver having attracted many more volunteers and gaining access to grant funding to supplement our own fund raising.
In 2011 Moorsholm achieved Gold in the category A2 Village and has maintained this high standard in 2012, 2013 and 2014. The village also won the Wansbeck Cup in these years for the best village. In 2014 Moorsholm also won the Percy Boydell trophy for most points in the competition, achieving 97%.
In 2013 and 2014 Moorsholm was invited to enter the Britain In Bloom competition and achieved Silver Gilt in the village category in 2013 and Gold in 2014, sharing the award of Best Village.
As well as the main categories, Moorsholm has also won several specialist awards for conservation, horticulture, grounds of a religious establishment and in 2014 Ken Gillance the Chair of Moorsholm in Bloom won the RHS Britain In Bloom Community Champion Award and Barry McCabe won best volunteer award. Peter and Sheena Smith have also had success in the Best Front Garden competition several years in succession resulting in a Gold award.
